Honor Educators with NEF Teacher Appreciation Cards
Recognize a special teacher or VIP in your child’s life by making a donation in his or her name to the Needham Education Foundation (NEF). NEF Teacher Appreciation Cards make it simple to show your gratitude, while supporting innovation and excellence in Needham Public Schools. NEF will send a card to your designated honoree(s) or you can purchase cards to personalize and hand deliver.  Cards are $15 each, $60 for 5 cards, or $100 for 10 cards.

Want to be a TUTEE?
Needham Youth Services seeks students in grades 3-8 who need help with study skills and specific school subjects for its Peer Tutor Program for the 2017-2018 school year. Tutors provide one hour of tutoring each week throughout the year at designated sites. The cost of the program is $45.

JUNE

Needham Free Public Library Summer Reading Program 2017
Registration is now open for the Needham Free Public Library's 2017 Summer Reading Program. This year the theme called, "Build a Better World" is all about engineering, construction and building community. Children can register at the Children's Desk or online at http://www.needhamma.gov/index.aspx?NID=3035 Read or be read to and record the time you spend reading online or at the library. Read or be read to for at least 16 hours over the summer and win awesome prizes! 

On Thursday, June 1st at 7:00 pm the Children's Department will offer a STEAM Center Orientation for parents. Parents of children in Grades 1-6 are invited to a tour of the library's STEAM Powered Creation Station to learn about how they can use the materials with their child. 

The STEAM Powered Creation Station is a Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math center full of science kits, robotics, electricity kits, engineering materials, a digital microscope, Raspberry Pi, MakeyMakey kits  and more for children ages 6 and up to explore. Open weekdays after school Monday-Thursday from 3:30-8:30 pm; Fridays from 3:30-5:00 pm; Saturdays from 9:00 am - 4:30 pm and Sundays from 1:00-6:30 pm. Open all day and evening weekdays and all day Saturdays during the summer.

Bookventurers Book Club for children in Grades 3-5 will meet on Saturday, June 10th at 3:15 pm to discuss the book The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kamkwamba. Make your own pinwheels and enjoy snacks.

Lego Time for children ages 5 years and up at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, June 13th. Make a LEGO building to display in the library.

On¬†Thursday,  June 22nd at 4:00 pm, children ages 6 years old and up are invited to make their own super balls!

Children ages 5-9 years are invited to relax and stretch out with Yoga for Children at 10:30 am on Saturday, June 24th.

Start off Summer Reading with "Imagine a Better World" magic show with magician Matthias Letelier, voted best magic show in NY. This show on¬†Monday,  June 26th at 4:30 pm¬†features exciting stage magic, mentalism, audience participation and a live rabbit.¬†

Explore Simple Machines in a hands-on workshop with children's author David Hyde Costello for children ages 7 and up on¬†Tuesday,  June 27th at 4:30 pm. Registration required. To register visit the Children's Desk or call 781-455-7559.

At¬†3:00¬†on¬†Friday,  June 30th¬†the library will show the movie¬†Wreck It Ralph, rated PG, running time 2 hours.

You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown
Come see ‚ÄúYou‚Äôre a Good Man,Charlie Brown‚ÄĚ at Needham High! Get your tickets for this student produced,directed, and performed show for $5 at the door. Doors open at 7 for¬†7:30¬†performanceson¬†Friday June 9th, and¬†Saturday, June 10th¬†in the Needham HighSchool auditorium.

Extreme Looks
‚ÄúExtreme Looks‚ÄĚ is a¬†free¬†four day intensive seminar that examines how the media goes to extremes that distort girls‚Äô self-esteem, body-image, and perceptions about relationships.¬† Based on a model of wellness, the group will incorporate activities, discussions, and teach participants safe ways to exercise and stay healthy, thus addressing the needs of the mind, body, and spirit.¬† In addition to the seminar itself, participants will be eligible for summer memberships to the Needham YMCA.¬†The program is open to girls, in 6th¬†- 8th¬†grades (2016-2017 school year) and is scheduled for¬†Monday¬†‚Äď Thursday, June 26th¬†‚Äď June 29th, from¬†1-4 pm.  For more information please contact Katy Colthart, LICSW at 781-455-7500 x264 or¬†kcolthart@needhamma.gov¬†Learn more at¬†www.needhamma.gov/youth/extremelooks.¬†¬†¬†¬†

Needham Junior Police Academy

SAVE THE DATE:  Big Carnival Coming to Needham
The Rotary Club of Needham is bringing a good old fashion carnival to town July7,8,9.  There will be many of the thrill rides, family rides, and kiddie rides that you remember from your youth.  The carnival will be set up in the high school parking lot at the top of the hill.  Since this is the first year for the carnival, be sure to mark your calendars early and watch the Needham Rotary Club web site and facebook page for more info to come.
